When Will Rudy Gobert Return From His Calf Strain?

Jazz all-star center Rudy Gobert remains out with a calf strain he suffered in final 5 minutes of Utah's loss to the Warriors last Sunday.

Despite the notoriously confusing and lingering nature of calf strains, our team of ProBasketballDocs believe this to be a minor strain and expect only a short-term absence for the 3-time Defensive Player of the Year.

While he is unlikely to play in Utah's next 2 contests on the road vs the Grizzlies and Timberwolves, he is certainly in line to return during the 6-game homestand starting next Wednesday against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets.

Gobert has missed the last 2 games, both losses to the Suns, and both also played without guard Donovan Mitchell, who is expected back from his concussion as soon as this weekend.

The Jazz are 1-6 without their beanstalk this season, with all 7 games coming since Jan. 5, spearheading their fall down the West standings to 4th place.

Gobert appeared to suffer the injury with a little over 4 minutes left in the game while boxing out on a Joe Ingles layup. He limped and grabbed at his upper calf up the floor, and continued to fuss with the leg throughout the remainder of the contest, although he finished the game.

He has been remarkably healthy in recent history, playing in 262 of a possible 275 games since 2018-19. 5 of those 13 missed contests came during his bout with COVID-19 earlier this month (his 2nd positive COVID test, although the first was much more consequential).
