The Chicago White Sox placed shortstop Tim Anderson on the 10-day IL today, a potentially encouraging outcome after he exited Sunday's game with a severe-looking groin strain.
Tim Anderson Injury Update
The soon-to-be 29-year-old had to be carried into the dugout after fielding a ground ball in the 5th inning against the Cubs.
However, he was spotted on the exercise bike in the visitors' clubhouse Tuesday.
White Sox anchor Chuck Garfien reported Tuesday afternoon that Anderson's strain is a Grade 1 and manager Tony La Russa told Garfien that the team hopes to have him back in three weeks.
His placement on the 10-day IL certainly indicates the team has optimism he can be back in quicker than 60 days, but the shortstop position requires a lot of quick side-to-side movement.
The Pro Baseball Docs were initially fearful of a 60-day IL stint for Anderson, based on video of the injury and his hesitance to use the groin muscle at all after injuring it.
Him using the exercise bike is an encouraging development on the surface, but it is a linear motion and doesn't involve the groin much.
It would be great news for Anderson to rejoin the club at some point in June.
Until then, Chicago will have to get by with Danny Mendick or Leury Garcia at shortstop.
