The White Sox placed all-star closer Liam Hendriks on the 15-day IL with a forearm strain on Tuesday while announcing a host of other injury updates.
Hendriks suffered the muscle injury in his right arm on Friday and the IL placement is retroactive to Saturday.
General manager Rick Hahn said Hendriks will be out for at least three weeks but flexor strains can often lead to and be a harbinger for more significant elbow injuries.
The 33-year-old has a 2.81 ERA with 37 strikeouts and a league-leading 16 saves in 25.1 IP this season.
The White Sox can take a sigh of relief as Kopech's right knee soreness has already subsided after he had fluid drained.
Kopech left Sunday's start after suffering a right knee injury in the first inning but an MRI revealed no structural damage.
Tony La Russa said they expect the right-hander to be available for his next scheduled start.
Tim Anderson made his first AAA rehab start on Tuesday night and the White Sox are hopeful that he will be able to rejoin the team during their homstand next week.
Anderson has been out on the 10-day IL since suffering a right groin strain on May 29 and is progressing faster than the ProBaseballDocs initially feared.
Anderson's absence has opened the door for infielder Danny Mendick, who is batting .288 with three home runs, eight extra-base hits, 17 RBI and 18 runs in 80 at-bats this season.
Rookie slugger Jake Burger will sit until at least Friday after he was HBP in his right hand on Monday. After suffering the injury in the fourth inning, Burger actually finished his at-bat, which continued because he swung at the aforementioned pitch, but was removed in the fifth.
Burger, who is second on the team with eight home runs and fourth with 23 RBI, is fighting to reduce the swelling in his dominant hand.
