White Sox Starter Lucas Giolito Nearing Return From Abdominal Strain

White Sox righty Lucas Giolito will reportedly throw a simulated game Tuesday afternoon in Arizona as he works his way back from an early April abdominal strain.

Manager Tony La Russa told reporters that if all goes well with the simulated game, Giolito could return to the rotation as soon as five days from Tuesday.

That would put him in line to start against the Twins this Sunday.

The 27-year-old exited his first start of the season after pitching four complete innings.

He reportedly felt tightness in the left side of his abdomen, but luckily escaped any sort of oblique injury.

His return would be great news for a Chicago team struggling with injuries right now.

Two-time All-Star Lance Lynn remains out with a torn tendon in his right knee and starting third baseman Yoan Moncada is unlikely to return from his oblique injury before May.

The White Sox' matchup against the Cleveland Guardians was rained out Tuesday, but they are scheduled to play a doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m. central time Wednesday.
