Will Joc Pederson's Groin Injury Send Him To The IL?

Giants' general manager Farhan Zaidi told reporters that an MRI revealed outfielder Joc Pederson suffered a grade one adductor strain earlier this week.

Pederson hasn't played since leaving Wednesday's loss to the Athletics in the fourth inning after injuring his groin attempting to beat out a throw to second base.

The 30-year-old lefty will sit for a game or two to rest the injury before the team decides whether to place him on the IL.

Pederson, who came over this offseason from the world champion Braves, is batting .353 with a 1.127 OPS, six home runs, 10 RBI, and 11 runs in 51 at-bats this season.

The Giants are already down four starting position players: Evan Longoria, who is recovering from a preseason finger surgery; Tommy La Stella, who has an achilles injury; Lamonte Wade, who is out with knee soreness; and Steven Duggar, who is on the 60-day IL with an oblique strain.

San Francisco is also without pitchers Anthony DeSclafani, Matthew Boyd, Alex Cobb, Dominic Leone, and Zack Littell, the last two with COVID-19.

Despite the injuries, the Giants are 13-6 with an MLB-leading plus-44 run differential.
