Yankees' outfielder Joey Gallo is out of the lineup Sunday after leaving Saturday's shutout win over the Royals with left groin tightness.
He's considered day-to-day and the team hasn't decided whether to place him on the IL, although Gallo expressed optimism that the injury isn't serious and he will return to the lineup soon.
The 28-year-old lefty suffered the groin injury when he attempted to steal second base in the top of the fourth inning. Aaron Boone replaced Gallo with Tim Locastro in the bottom of the fifth.
Boone said Gallo did some stretching and agility drills in the field and will continue to undergo treatment on Sunday. Miguel Andujar started in left field and is batting seventh in the order Sunday against the Royals.
After struggling to start the season, Gallo is batting .300 and posting a 1.014 OPS with two home runs, one double, three RBI, and five runs over the last seven games. The Yankees have won eight games in a row and lead the AL East with a 15-6 record.
