Former Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral will not throw at the NFL Draft Combine because he is still recovering from a high right ankle sprain.
It remains to be seen if it will affect his draft position.
The dual-threat suffered the injury on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl against Baylor. He left on a cart returned to the sidelines on crutches, but did not have a fracture.
He reportedly resumed “light throwing” two weeks ago and plans to participate fully at Ole Miss’ Pro Day on March 23.
Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, said this should be a non-issue in the big picture.
Corral will still undergo a physical at the Draft Combine, but the physical should not reveal anything that teams do not already know about him.
He may not be 100% throwing on the ankle at the Pro Day, but his ankle will be healed in plenty of time for training camp, Chao said.
Corral, a redshirt junior, finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting last season, finishing with 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions in 13 games. He had a 67.7 percent completion rate and also rushed for 11 touchdowns.
The 23-year-old also dealt with multiple left ankle sprains last season, but finished as one of three college quarterbacks with 20 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns last season.
