Zamir White, the Georgia Bulldogs’ leading rusher last season, has some important medical hurdles to clear before getting drafted by an NFL team this April.
The 22-year-old suffered two torn ACLs, one in each knee, during his senior year of high school and his freshman year of college.
After that, he has been durable and issue-free. He played in all 15 games last season for the Bulldogs and led the team in rush attempts, rushing yards and touchdowns. He also had 13 rushes for 84 yards and a touchdown in the National Championship win over Alabama.
The importance of the Combine medicals will be to check the integrity of his ACL reconstructions, said Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc.
Assuming the grafts are healthy and in good position, and he has minimal articular cartilage damage, the fact that he has been relatively healthy since his early career will be in his favor, Chao said.
The former high school track star was a physical and explosive runner in college. He was the No. 1 ranked RB in 2018 and currently projects as a third-round pick.
The fact alone that he's had tears in both his right and left knees will not have teams shying away because he has recovered or performed well, Chao said. The key is to show good stability and continued integrity of the ACL graft as well as minimal wear and tear on his cartilage.
The physical for White will play a big role in what round he is eventually drafted.
