Clearly Sam Darnold wants to play and has declared himself ready after two days of practice. Clearly the Jets want him to play and gave him first team reps in practice, especially with the second string option Luke Falk being available after filling in Week 3. Ultimately the final decision will be up to the medical staff. The question is will it be safe to play given the enlarged spleen? Given that Monday’s exam still showed an enlarged spleen, the Friday exam four days later is not likely to show that the spleen has shrunk enough to allow him to safely play. A return to play always has to be a unanimous yes from the team, the player, and the medical staff. In this case, two out of three will still have Darnold on the bench. Lets see what the ultrasound on the spleen shows. However, I still have my doubts on his availability Sunday. It’s good to see that his energy level is reportedly back.
