San Francisco 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga is determined to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 season as he continues his recovery from a torn right ACL. Hufanga suffered the injury in Week 11 against the Buccaneers but was fortunate to avoid additional ligament damage.
During minicamp, Hufanga expressed his optimism about his recovery timeline. "The goal is to be ready by Week 1," Hufanga told reporters. “The plan is to participate in training camp, maybe not right at the start but to gradually ramp up my activity. We want to be smart about it. We've had many discussions with the training staff to ensure I'm in the best possible position to succeed.”
At sicscore.com, we believe Hufanga will not be ready for the start of training camp. However, Pro Football Doc expects Hufanga to avoid the PUP list and be ready for the start of the season.
As a defensive back, Hufanga relies heavily on his reaction time, and recovering from an ACL injury will pose challenges to his effectiveness this season. While we anticipate gradual progress towards 100%, we do not expect him to reach full form in the first half of the season.
Hufanga was named an All-Pro in 2022, only his second season in the league. In 2023, he was on track to replicate that success, finishing with 52 tackles and 3 interceptions in just 10 games before his injury.
