Buccaneers Pro Bowl right tackle Tristan Wirfs is unlikely to play against the Rams this Sunday, based on video of him at practice Friday.
Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, said Wirfs is dealing with a right high ankle sprain that will severely limit his effectiveness if he is active against Los Angeles.
“Wirfs limps considerably and cannot but his full weight with force down on the right ankle,“ Chao said. “There is no way he can block and add another person's body weight and hold up.”
Wirfs attempted to play after injuring the ankle in last week’s win over the Eagles, but gave up a sack right away and exited the ball game.
Tampa Bay’s backup right tackle Josh Wells has also been limited in practice with a quad injury. He will likely be questionable for the game and will be limited if he plays.
Center Ryan Jensen suffered a left ankle injury in last week’s win as well, but returned and finished the game.
By video of Jensen at practice Friday, he seemed to be moving well and should play effectively, Chao said.
The Buccaneers are 3-point favorites at home against the Rams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
