The University of Wisconsin's men's basketball season seemed to hang in the balance with 17:32 left in the game as leading scorer Johnny Davis went down awkwardly after suffering an apparent right leg injury.
It appears, however, according to our ProBasketballDocs, that the sophomore star suffered an eversion ankle sprain, and could be back on the court for the Badgers as soon as the Big Ten Tournament next Friday.
Davis, who is averaging 20.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in 27 games for No. 10 Wisconsin this season, went down after tripping over Nebraska guard Trey McGowens' feet before being fouled by McGowens at the end of the play. McGowens was ejected for the foul, and Davis went down while initially grabbing his knee, stoking speculation and worry for a serious knee injury.
Based on video, Davis appears to turn his right ankle on the second-to-last step in what was an unusual, non-basketball style of sprain. He could be seen by the TV broadcast running back-and-forth in the tunnel.
The Badgers, who finished the regular season with a 24-6 record and the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten, are set to play in the first round of the conference tournament next Friday against an undetermined opponent. The tournament stretches through Sunday, March 13.
Our Docs believe he is likely to be available in the tournament next weekend, and seems to be a lock to play in the NCAA Tournament, which opens on March 15.
Davis is a finalist for the Wooden Award, and is the frontrunner for Big Ten's Player Of The Year.
