With Calf Injury Behind Him, Expect Full Mike Trout Production

Angels star center fielder Mike Trout missed more games last season than he had in the previous eight seasons combined.

A calf tear knocked him out of 126 games last year and the Angels finished fourth in the AL West, 18 games behind the Houston Astros.

Trout was given a projected timeline of 6-8 weeks after the May 17 injury, but never returned to the field after experiencing lingering soreness from scar tissue in the calf.

He did not require surgery to fix the calf issue. Calf injuries can linger, but not through multiple seasons.

The ProBaseballDocs expect the injury to be behind him and he should be 100% healthy with no ill effects.

His Sports Injury Central health score is 93, meaning there is minimal to no worry for his health heading into the season. The SIC score is meant to measure how healthy a player is and how well they can perform through injury.

The ProBaseballDocs project the 30-year-old will regain his usual form this season and should be drafted as usual in all fantasy formats.

One stat to monitor will be his stolen bases. He will have full ability to steal bases and run with his typical explosive speed, but the Angels may choose to be cautious with the irreplaceable star and limit when he gets the "green light" to steal.

On Aug. 31, 2019, Trout became the youngest player to join the 200 home run-200 stolen base club. Since then, he has stolen three bases in 98 games.

His production at the plate and ability in center field have not waned in that stretch, but his years of at least 20 home runs and 20 steals may be behind him.

Nonetheless, the 9-time All-Star and 8-time Silver Slugger will be gunning for his fourth MVP crown whenever baseball resumes.

Shohei Ohtani, the two-way sensation, played in 155 games last season and will be entering his fifth year with Mike Trout as a teammate.
