The Yankees' injury woes continue, as they lost closer Aroldis Chapman, rightfielder Giancarlo Stanton, and second baseman DJ LeMahieu to various injuries on Tuesday.
New York placed Chapman on the 15-day IL after an MRI found left achilles tendinitis.
Chapman has been dealing with the leg injury for much of the last week, and his production has waned over that time, allowing a 14.73 ERA and 1.469 OPS over his last five appearances after starting the season with 12 consecutive scoreless outings.
Luckily, tests found no other Achilles or ankle damage, but he will be out for the next two weeks nonetheless. Clay Holmes will likely close games in his absence, as he did in Saturday's win over the White Sox.
LeMahieu was a late scratch ahead of Tuesday's extra-innings win with left wrist discomfort.
It is unclear when he suffered the injury, but the 33-year-old had the night off on Monday, coming into the pinch-hit in the ninth inning. Aaron Boone said he underwent an MRI that came back clean and received a cortisone shot that could bring him back to the lineup as soon as Thursday.
The Yankees, fortunately, are loaded in the infield, and Gleyber Torres will step into the lineup for as long as LeMahieu is out.
The powerful slugger was pulled in the seventh inning with right calf tightness.
He appeared to stumble running out of the box as his right foot stuck to the dirt on a groundout in the first inning, but the Yankees have not confirmed when he suffered the injury or began feeling tightness. He struck out in his second at-bat in the fourth inning, swinging and missing at only one pitch. Boone said he will undergo an MRI on his calf tomorrow.
Stanton has spent time nearly symmetrically at both right field and DH this season while batting .282 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, and only three doubles.
