The slumping Yankees suffered another loss on Monday when resurgent slugging outfielder Matt Carpenter fractured his left foot on a foul ball in the first inning.
Based on initial video, the Pro Baseball Docs believe Carpenter suffered a non-displaced first metatarsal fracture and are hopeful that he will avoid surgery and return in 4-to-6 weeks.
The 36-year-old DH fouled the ball off his back foot and limped away from the box but finished the at-bat before being removed in the third inning.
As noted by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Chris Taylor suffered a fractured foot on a deflected foul ball in early July and missed one month before returning last weekend.
Donning a rebuilt swing, Carpenter has been a revelation for the East-leading Yankees since they picked him up in June, posting an OPS of 1.147 with 15 home runs and 37 RBI in 46 games.
He joins fellow outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Harrison Bader on the 10-day IL. Stanton is nursing Achilles tendonitis and began his return conditioning last week, while Bader will remain out until September with right foot plantar fasciitis.
New York, 71-39, is 7-11 since the all-star break and lost five games coming into Monday's win over the Mariners.
The Yankees remain 10.5 games up in the AL East and have the second-best odds to win the World Series at +380 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
