Yu Darvish Placed on 15-day IL with Neck Stiffness

The San Diego Padres placed Pitcher Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list with neck stiffness. The move is retroactive to Monday, meaning Darvish can return April 30th, at the earliest.

Darvish last pitched on Sunday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles giving up three runs in five innings pitched.

“It’s not bad,” Darvish said. “I just need to take a little bit off. This afforded me a couple weeks.” Darvish also said he began to feel tightness before his start in Los Angeles.

Darvish has dealt with neck issues in the past. He was on the injured list with a neck injury in 2013.

Last season Darvish started 24 games, his lowest amount of starts in a non-Covid season since 2018. His season ended early as he was shut down in September with a stress reaction in his right elbow.

Darvish is on his 2nd year of a six-year $108M contract. This season Darvish is 0-1, with a 4.18 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched for San Diego.
