Ertz will not play in the must-win game versus the Giants. As we have signaled all week, an isolated rib fracture was not going to keep him from playing. Now he is declared out and there is additional description of a back injury in addition to the rib fracture. He was hit on the left flank posteriorly. With the listing of a back injury in addition to the rib now, there is clearly additional damage. The listing of "back" is just a region. It does not necessarily mean the thoracic or lumbar spine is injured. There could be some internal organ damage specifically to the kidney, which could be legally classified as the "back" area. When Ertz returned after a rib block last week, he looked unlike himself. The Eagles will need to win the NFC East without him. If kidney injury is confirmed, Ertz could miss playoff games too.
