Zion Williamson Officially Done For Season With Nagging Foot Injury

Zion Williamson, the Pelicans star third-year forward, is officially done for the season, the team announced Monday morning.

The hulking former Duke star has been hampered by his surgically repaired right foot since the summer of 2021 and the potential for a second surgery remains on the table.

In December, the ProBasketballDocs projected that Williamson would not play this season.

That projection was confirmed as more news came out about the 21-year-old's recovery, including that he had an injection in the foot to promote healing.

Two weeks ago, the ProBasketballDocs highlighted that Williamson was likely heading for a second surgery. That is still a distinct possibility, especially with Williamson and the Pelicans now focused on next season.

For now, the lack of an announcement of a second surgery is good news. It signals that the Pelicans want to explore every option before resorting to that step.

New Orleans struggled early in the season without Williamson, but have surged after the acquisition of C.J. McCollum and are now tied for ninth place in the West.

The focus for Williamson and the Pelicans for next season will be to get Williamson to a healthy playing weight that doesn't put added stress on his lower extremities.

Until that happens, a second surgery remains a possibility for Williamson to enter next season with a clean slate.
