Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson is suffering from soreness in his surgically-repaired right foot that has put a delay on his recovery, the team announced on Thursday.
The setback, while frustrating for the 21-year-old and the 6-18 Pelicans, is not surprising, given the nature and severity of the injury and Williamson's size and playing style. We suspect that the team will continue to proceed with caution during his recovery. Head coach Willie Green said as such on Thursday, pointing out that "we're talking about somebody's career," so the key for them is to be "diligent about how to get him back on the floor."
Williamson was cleared to for full basketball activities on Nov. 26, and he had been doing 4-on-4 full-court work before taking a step back. Green said during practice availability that they're in a wait-and-see approach with the soreness, but are hopeful it will go away soon they can "ramp him back up."
